Random Thoughts and Ramblings From the Studio
So I'm sitting in the studio right now. Yep, I'm on the air but I just felt like typing. For some reason it's really quiet on the phone lines today so I don't have a whole lot happening. Of course, I haven't worked on a weekend yet where it hasn't been that way.
In just 10 days, I'm flying home! The more I talk to my family and friends back home, the more I look forward to stepping back on Dixie soil. Of course, I kindda wonder how that could be affected depending on the strike vote being taken by Delta's pilots. Yep! I'll be flying on an airline that not only is bankrupt (of course, that's pretty much all of the big ones these day) but whose pilots may strike. Of course, let's just hope the pilots care enough about me to continue to do their jobs while at the controls. :-)
I meant to write about this a little while back but I forgot. I was reminded of one of the reasons why I do radio a few days ago at one of my sticker stops. I was hanging out in a store parking lot and a man walked up to the van and asked if I had any stickers. So I hooked him up with some stickers and CDs that I thought his kids would like (he mentioned that he was there for his daughters). He said thanks and was ecstatic and saying "they're going to flip when they see these!" That made my week. A lot of people think that we do this to make money for our superiors. While that is an important part of radio (if for no other reason then so I can get paid), ultimately I would like to think that every jock who cracks a mic does so to bring entertainment or happiness to someone. I made that guy's day simply by being in the van and giving him some stickers and CDs for his daughters. Things like that... that's why I do what I do.
The end of the book is near! Only a few more days! Honestly, I'm glad that it's here. I'm stressed... VERY stressed. Of course, everyone who does this for a living has to be stressed by now and ready for a break. Even my bosses have noticed that I've been a little more on edge lately. I don't know why this book has been especially rough on me personally. Don't get me wrong, I've been putting forth the best effort on the air and in my music duties possible; I'm just tired and ready for a break. Most of the people who have known me for any length of time know that I have a background in sports. Every sports team I've ever been involved with, the coach always said "give it your all and leave it all on the field." I feel like I've done that. I'm tired. And when I go on vacay, I'm leaving it all in the studio and picking it back up when I come back. Hopefully that means that I've been successful.
I rented some movies a few days ago and I finally got around to watching them all over the last couple of days. Out of the three that I rented, my favorite was Coach Carter. It's about a basketball coach in California who takes over a struggling high school boys basketball team. Not only did he teach them how to win, but he taught them how to be successful off the court. It was really an inspiring movie and I would highly suggest it if you're looking for a good movie to rent.
I guess that's all I have for now. I'll try and post something of more substance over the next couple of days. Until then... :-)
